Are you sure it's an SS263? We had a 263 on a very similar chassis at Kidderminster and the booms over-hung the cab a lot more than this. Maybe this is an SS220?

Was this low-profile cab used on any other types of appliances, such as TLs or pumps? Dennis history experts awake!

Have just checked the 1995 edition of "The Fire Brigade Handbook" which states its a SS263! However the 1996 edition states it's a SS220. And having looked at a rear end photo that I took the plate above the cage says it's a SS220. See fleet lists ar'nt always right!

TL's yes Rob, but not pumps as far as I'm aware.

Rob, see picture 1614, for a TL example. This type of Dennis is more commonly known as a Dennis Delta which refers to the special low line chassis which enables the ladder to be located as low as possible. The Perkins V8 engine is located well behind the front axle so that the area around the driver's and officer's seats is very open.

Def SS220, I was based at medway when this went on the run, i was also an instructor on this appliance, it was severely damaged in an RTA when the brakes failed on a shout and it rammed into the back of the WrL.. Its original colour was 'day glo orange', but when it came back from Dennis, it was red and more importantly.......had bigger brake drums. Wonder where it is now ?
